Kayaking Expedition and Painting Series

In 2012 Anya Gleizer became the youngest woman to circumnavigate lake Baikal in Russia's eastern Siberia. During the course of the 45 day kayaking journey, she generated a set of aquatic and environmental-health data analyses, sampling Baikal's water at different points around the circumference of the lake for different properties and solutes. The journey produced a series of paintings which were distributed to her supporters on kickstarter. Slow travel under human power, and full immersion with the water and land that support her during these expeditions, are of incredible imporance to Gleizer's practice.
